IIT JEE JEE ADVANCE


JEE Advanced is conducted every year by one of the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) namely IIT Kharagpur, IIT Kanpur, IIT Madras, IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IIT Roorkee or Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore under the aegis of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). Admissions to Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s and Dual Degree programmes (entry at the 10+2 level) in all the 23 IITs, including the Indian School of Mines (ISM) are done based on ranks obtained by candidates in JEE Advanced.

Through JEE Advanced, candidates can secure admissions to the following courses:

1. 4-year Bachelors - B.Tech, BS
2. 5-year BArch
3. 5-year Dual Degree - B.Tech, M.Tech, BS, MS
4. 5-year Integrated Masters - M.Tech, MSc, Dual Degree

The JEE Advanced will be conducted as two papers in two sessions. Paper-1 will be conducted from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm while paper-2 will be was conducted from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Candidates have to register themselves online for the computer-based entrance test. The two papers based on a predefined JEE Advanced syllabus released by the conducting authorities were mandatory for all the aspirants.

JEE Advanced Exam Pattern

JEE Advanced will contain two papers - Paper 1 and Paper 2, with two language options viz. English and Hindi.

1. JEE Advanced will be a computer-based test.

2. Candidates will be given a time limit of 3 hours to attempt each paper.

3. The test will consist of Multiple Choice Questions, Numerical Aptitude Questions and Match the cases from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

4. The marking scheme will be provided in “Instructions to Candidates” at the time of examination.

There is no fixed pattern of the exam. Here, we have defined the JEE Advanced Exam Pattern based on the analysis of previous year question papers:

JEE Advanced Syllabus

IIT Kharagpur has released syllabus of JEE Advanced. There had been a buzz for a reduction in syllabus but IIT Kharagpur claimed that no such consideration will be made in future JAB meetings, and syllabus is going to remain the same. Students appearing for the exam can refer NCERT textbooks for class 11 and 12 for the exam syllabus.

Physics: General, Thermal Physics, Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Modern Physics

Chemistry: Organic and inorganic chemistry, Physical chemistry

Mathematics: Analytical geometry, algebra, trigonometry, integral calculus, differential calculus, vectors

Architecture aptitude: Geometrical drawing, freehand drawing, architectural awareness, imagination and aesthetic sensitivity, three-dimensional perception.

JEE Advanced Preparation Tips

Seeing the vastness of the syllabus and the variety of books available in the market, it often becomes difficult for the students to choose the right strategy. The first step towards preparing in the right direction is to know the syllabus and the pattern of the examination well. Students are advised to make challenging but realistic time tables for studying relevant subjects.

Mock tests help students to get an idea of the exam and manage their time well. Candidates can find mock tests and previous year question papers on the official website.

Know your syllabus and the pattern of the examination: Students must go through the official syllabus and also the pattern of the paper to get a fair idea about the difficulty level of the questions, the weightage of different topics, marking scheme etc.

Time management: It is the most important aspect of qualifying any examination. Students must understand how much time they need to devote for a particular question and should also know which questions are to be attempted and which are to be skipped.

Study materials and books: The most important part is to begin with the NCERT books. NCERT books help in building concepts and are in simple languages. Once they are thorough with the basics, they can move on to higher and advanced books. Students are advised to go for books and materials which are in simpler language and helps them understand the topics easily.

Solve previous year questions and mock tests: Mock tests help the candidates to check their preparation level. It helps them identify their strength and weakness and guide them to prepare accordingly. It also helps them familiarize with the weightage and the difficulty level of the examination.

Revision: It is the most important part of any preparation strategy. In the last days leading to the examination, it is important to revise the prepared topics well. Students are advised not to study any new concepts at the end and are instead advised to devote their time fully for revision. At the end all that matters is how much u remember and not how much you studied.

JEE Advanced Eligibility

@ Candidates are required to fulfil the following JEE Advanced eligibility criteria for filling the form for JEE Advanced:

@ Only those candidates who were born on or after 1st October 1997, are eligible to apply in JEE Advanced. SC/ST/PWD category students are provided with a relaxation of 5 years.

@ Both Indian and foreign nationals are eligible for this examination.

@ Like the previous year, 75% criteria has been scrapped for this year as well.

Candidates are required to qualify the JEE Main and be among the top-ranking students.

@ The maximum number of attempts for JEE Advanced is two.

@ JEE Advanced Registration Process will be conducted online.

@ Candidates are required to fill all the personal information including their email address and phone number(s).

@ Candidates are also required to provide the medium of the paper.

JEE Advanced Documents Required

Candidates are required to submit the following documents at the time of registration:

@ Class 10th certificate for the purpose of validating the date of birth of the candidate.

@ Class 12th certificate.

@ Caste certificate wherever applicable.

@ Disability certificate wherever applicable.

@ PIO or OCI certificates wherever applicable.

JEE Advanced Application Fees

The application fee for JEE Main can be paid via online and offline mode(s) of payment.

@ Online modes include- payment via net banking, credit/debit card etc.

@ Offline payments can be made through e-challan method of State Bank of India.

JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria

I – Performance in JEE Main

Candidates who fall among the top 2,50,000 rankers in JEE Main across all categories are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced. Out of this number, the percentage of candidates eligible for admissions under different categories are as follows:

@ General category candidates (from the common merit list) – 46.5%

@ General EWS – 4%

@ OBC-NCL candidates – 27%

@ SC candidates – 15%

ST candidates – 7.5%

@ PWD candidates - Horizontal reservation of 5% in all the above categories

Note: The total number of candidates can be slightly greater than 2,50,000 in the presence of “tied” ranks/scores in any category.

II – Age limit

@ General or OBC-NCL category candidates born on or after October 1, 1996, can apply for the exam.

However, the age limit for SC, ST or PwD category candidates has been relaxed. SC, ST or PwD candidates born on or after October 1, 1991, will be eligible for the exam.

III – Number of attempts

@ A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced for a maximum of two times in two consecutive years

IV – Appearance in Class 12 (or equivalent) examination

@ Candidates can appear for this engineering entrance exam if they have appeared for their Class 12 or equivalent exam for the first time in Previous Year & This Year

V – Earlier admission at IITs/ISM

@ A candidate should NOT have been admitted in an IIT irrespective of whether or not he/she continued in the programmed OR accepted an IIT seat by reporting at a reporting center in the past. Candidates whose admission at IITs was cancelled after joining any IIT are also not eligible to appear in JEE Advanced.

@ Candidates who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs for the first time in Previous Year can appear in JEE Advanced This Year.

@ The candidates who paid seat acceptance fee in Previous Year but (i) did not report at any reporting center OR, (ii) withdrew before the last round of seat allotment, OR, (iii) had their seat cancelled (for whatever reason) before the last round of seat allotment for IITs, during the joint seat allocation in Previous Year are eligible to appear in JEE Advanced This Year.

@ However, in any of the above cases, the candidate is required to fulfill the conditions mentioned from criterion 1 to criterion 4.
