The key component of success is the ability to achieve the mission you are pursuing.  It has always been the case that the responsibility of completing, and the resources needed for pursuing a mission, has always laid within the organizational boundaries.  As a result of globalization of businesses, it has led to increase in outsourcing among different organizations.  In the modern business environment, workflow is no longer neatly contained within organizational boundaries, and the workflow is distributed among different organizations or groups.  This in result is leaving the managers in an unappealing position of encompassing a responsibility for ensuring a completion of a mission.  Hence they are not dealing with or controlling all the resources needed to accomplish the mission.
