IS 1893 Draft…
See the picture below of a ongoing construction of B + G+ 7 residential building in a tier 3 city coming under seismic zone 3 ( Moderate seismicity ) as per IS 1893.
Actual construction is observed on this site which is representative of tens of thousands of constructions in India. The observations are just for foundation and starter columns.
* All column widths seems less than 300 mm.
* All columns are near about the same size and appear grossly underdesigned.
* All footings are near about the same size and appear underdesigned. Footings overlapping at places but reinforcement places as if separate.
*All footing depths are near about the same and appear underdesigned.
* No shear walls in open story parking construction except some small walls may come in central lift shafts, but no way will be sufficient to the shear wall density expected by the codes. Just forget to think about mode shapes and torsion etc
* No ductile detailing. No confinement as required by codal provisions of IS
