A 10 story apartment building has been analyzed and designed in ETABS and verified with manual calculations .Stability check as per IS 1893 has been carried out including plan irregularity, torsion irregularity, mass irregularity, soft story, drift etc. and found the structure to be stable under the subjected load.
In MODAL ANALYSIS 1.01 sec. Fundamental time period has been achieved and the first three modal masses contributed more than 65% in the lateral direction and the fundamental lateral natural period of the building in two plan directions are away from each other by 19% (>10%) of the larger value.
Column/beam capacity ratio has been maintained above 1.2 as directed in IS code to avoid weak column-strong beam condition during heavy lateral loading . While performing PUSHOVER ANALYSIS(non-linear static analysis) it has been observed that the plastic hinges were propagating in the beams, finally in the column leading to global failure followed by local failure.
Linear static analysis for lateral loading(earthquake and wind) has been performed and verified with the empirical formulas given in IS 1893. Beam design parameters has been verified manually with the software data which was under flexure, shear and torsion and found that the obtained values are very close to each other.
